Our first week back, we covered Winter! Our art integration was to paint with "snow paint". This wonderful medium is shaving cream mixed with wet glue. Students painted a Winter scene, and they are now hanging up around our classroom.
We also had our class presentation at Friday Morning Meeting! We learned how to set goals, and came up with the most adorable skit describing how to think of, set, and achieve your goal. I was so proud of these kiddos for remembering their lines and speaking so proudly infront of the entire school!
The next week was all about comparison words for measurement. We learned about weight and capacity, and how to tell what is "heavier" and what is "lighter". We also started discussing NOUNS! Students now know that a noun is a "person, place, or thing." Along with this, we started learning about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his dream for the world. We discussed how he wanted everyone to be treated equally, and be able to work together. We did many teambuilding activities to show that even though we all look different from one another, we can work together to achieve anything! We tried the knotted hands activity and the hula hoop around the circle activity. They LOVED it!
This past week we discussed verbs and using non-standard tools to measure things. We used pipe cleaners to "build a verb", which we then wrote about at stations. We also built snowmen and measured them using unifix cubes!
Our science theme was solids, liquids, and gases. To show how ice (solid) melts into a liquid, we made ICE PAINT! BY mixing food coloring and water, students had to figure out how to turn the liquid into a solid. They determined it needed to go into the freezer. During the painting process, we discussed why the ice was melting onto their page.
What an exciting few weeks we have had in Kindergarten! Looking forward to another fun one.
All my love,
Miss George
