Language Arts has been all about letters and perfecting our journal skills. Every day, we write in our journals and a student is picked to share. This makes student's proud of their work and work hard to show it off. It doesn't have to be the perfect journal to be in the share chair...just one that was well-attempted! We have also been hitting letters and sight words in our daily station rotations.
Science has been taken over by FOOD! The students love cooking in class. These two weeks we cooked with pumpkins to make pumpkin dip and pumpkin seeds. I love seeing the students try new things, even if they are a little hesitant at first. We have also mastered the apple and pumpkin life cycles. We made our own pumpkins by ripping up orange paper and creating a vine out of the stages of the pumpkin life cycle. Students enjoyed ripping the paper instead of having to use scissors!
Social studies focused on nature helpers. Like community helpers, but they help nature! Some examples are worms, bees, and birds. Animals that help nature thrive. We became our own nature helpers when we pollinated our apple tree. This showed students that without pollination, we wouldn't have flowers! We also made the helper we were acting as.
In math, we made numbers fun. We have been working on identifying and writing the numbers 11-20. We took the answer hands that were stowed away in my closet and put them to use. I called out a number, and they had to write it as quickly as they could! They loved the race aspect of this activity.
We also had a special storyteller presenter, followed by a trip to the University of Richmond's Modlin Center to see him in action. He was very interactive with the students, and we had a great time visiting the theatre.
Finally, nothing is wrong with Lucy. She just shed her skin!! So cool.
