I'm sure many of you have been hearing about the mysterious "Miss Anna" that comes in and does cool lessons. She is and exceptional education teacher that comes in on Thursdays and Fridays, and has taken a liking to working with all of the students. We were very luck to have Miss Anna lead some fun lessons while the sub was in for PALs, as well as this week for apples.
Math has been all about the numbers! Miss Anna lead students in writing their numbers in shaving cream, which also cleaned the tables :) Upon my return form the testing world, students played a number game called "bobbing for apples" that helped reinforce numbers 1-20. We also had an apple taste test, where we voted for our favorite apple, and made a pictograph showing the class results.
In language arts, students participated in many letter review activities in preparation for the PALs testing. However, they also wrote in their journals about fall and apples, and read our new class book! Thanks to the Hartmans for helping me assemble this one!
Social studies focused on wrapping up communities and beginning fall and apples. Miss Anna lead a lesson from the Rainbow Fish about friendship, and we tied it into communities. This will become another class book later on. We also made apple art using apple halves and fall colors, as well as the extremely popular applesauce!
On the first day of Fall, we went outside and collected signs of Fall for our science lesson. We found many nature items that gave hints of the Fall season.
We had great parent volunteers on the Friday of PALs testing! Elliott's dad came on our hike with us for environmental education (and it was truly a HIKE this time...). Kennedy's mom came that afternoon and did a fun birdhouse arts and crafts lesson with the students! Thank you so much to those parents for sharing these memories.
Finally, THE BIKE RACE!! What an experience. It's not everyday students get to participate in an INTERNATIONAL EVENT! Students made signs and cheered on the bikers. We even got learn a little bit about each country in between riders. We had some great parents walk with us and help keep us safe! Shout out to Mr. and Mrs. McGurk (Nile's parents), Ms. Carter (Aaron's mom), Mrs. Melson (Jalise's mom), and Miss Eva (Xavi's nanny) for being AMAZING chaperones. Couldn't (and wouldn't) have done it without ya!
Almost fall break :)
