I'm sure you have all heard of the messes that darn leprechaun left in the room every morning! The traps were wonderful, and sparked a lot of excitement for the holiday. We celebrated in other ways, too. We make clover hats out of paper plates, wrote sight words in a rainbow, and even went on a Leprechaun hunt! Since we were working on addition in math, we had the students count and add fruit loops to make a wonderful rainbow! (Also delicious). We also made shamrocks and a leprechaun gold addition/art project.

Our science during the week of 3/16 was wind. To study wind, we made pinwheels, wrote about things the wind can blow, and made/flew kites! The kiddos loved getting outside to experience wind. Transportation was our social studies focus for the week. We read many books about modes of transportation and the different way students get to school. We wrapped up the unit with a giant graph of students' favorite modes on a GIANT chart! Students like seeing this chart and finding the vehicle they colored. Since our Dr. Seuss week was cut short, we celebrated the next Friday with the Lorax! Students watched The Lorax during Friday Morning Meeting, then did an art project making the face of the Lorax. The faces are currently jazzing up our classroom door! Due to snow, we only got through three of our Dr. Seuss days. Here are some shots that I captured of the spirit our kiddos showed this week! After three weeks of snow (SO OVER IT) I decided to go ahead and post some of the academics we had gotten around to in class. We wrapped up our measurement unit with a fun capacity activity. Students got to work in small groups to see how many foam cylinders each container could hold, finally determining which had the greatest capacity. We also started our magnet unit and had a magnet exploration afternoon. Students were able to rotate themselves through the different magnet stations. They got to explore all different types of magnets while discovering some of the properties of magnets. |
