We also started our whole group word study unit. Our first word study was the -at family (cat, rat, sat, bat, etc.) These are known as CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant) and these are words students should be able to sound out by this point in the year. Each week we will work with 2 new word families!
Math was all about addition! In kindergarten, we like to keep math concrete. This means when we offer a problem to the students, they are allowed (an encouraged) to use manipulatives/items to solve the problem. This helps them visualize what is actually happening during addition, instead of just arbitrarily memorizing facts. Please encourage the same at home, even if they "just know it"!
To wrap up our Presidents' Day unit, we learned about Abe Lincoln. More than that, we made masks to BECOME Honest Abe! They may be a little shorter than the real guy, but they look pretty close :)
All my love
